Scholarship Program
Tiny Toones scholarship began in 2010 as a way to help students, staff and volunteers of Tiny Toones reach their full potential. Applications open each year and any-one who has been with Tiny Toones for more than two years can apply. It is aimed at those who dream to receive an education but cannot due to lack of finances and lack of family support. Each year the number of recipients grows and in 2012, thirteen students have been awarded this scholarship.
- 2012 – 7 students are back at public school (4 female and 3 male)
- 2012 – 6 students are at University (2 female and 4 male)
There are at least another 10 students currently on the waiting list to receive a scholarship for University and Vocational Training, however due to lack of sufficient funds Tiny Toones must undertake this process slowly so that those currently on a scholarship can complete their course.
Tiny Toones scholarship is a very important new edition to our programs. For many people around the world education is a right but in Cambodia it is more a dream for many. Providing support back in to the public school system allows young people to obtain a grade 12 certificate and allow them the opportunity to get a better job. It also increases their level of confidence within themselves and in the world. In 2011, three Tiny Toones former street kids began university on a scholarship. This was not only a big moment for those three, but for the their families and for Tiny Toones. They were the first of their families to receive a university education, begin to break their family’s poverty cycle, and challenge the ingrained Cambodian class structure.
Currently eleven students are being funded for two years by ‘Entrance’.
