In 2010 French dancer, choreographer and creator Sebastien Ramirez revisited Cambodia.
After 4 weeks of workshops with Tiny Toones dancers, six of Tiny Toones bboys were selected to work along side two Vietnam bboys from Hanoi’s ‘Big Toe Crew’. Together the eight of them rehearsed to Sebastien’s choreography and guidance as he created ‘Chak Bach’ which was then performed at Chenla Theatre over two evenings.
In 2010, renowned International French choreographer Nabil Ouelhadj first travelled to Cambodia. He joined forces with Director Samir Akika to put on a show called ‘I Should Be So Lucky’ with Tiny Toones as its star performers. After two weeks of intense workshops and training, the show was performed at Chenla Theatre in Phnom Penh over two nights.
In 2009 Cambodia held its first ever hip hop festival. Tiny Toones were a prominent feature of ‘Phnom Penh Hip Hop’.
Tiny Toones were privileged to have met with hip hop dancers and choreographers Sebastien from France, Raphael and Storm from Germany during work shops.
For Alain Arnaudet, director of the French Cultural Centre in Cambodia, one of the festival’s aims is to give Cambodian dancers an opportunity to perform with some of the best hip hop dancers in the world. “Tiny Toones [the first hip hop youth centre of Cambodia] is very active in hip hop culture, but their dancers could learn more from international dancers, and how to build choreography,” Alain says. They (20 Tiny Toones dancers) will be taking part in a workshop with renowned German hip hoppers ‘Raphael’ (Raphael Hillebrand) and ‘Storm’ (Niels Robitzky) before showing off their skills at the Chenla Theatre. In 2009 Hydro and Tech 12 came to visit Tiny Toones. As renowned DJ’s and MC’s they have a great set of skills to pass on to our guys in the music department. They have work-shopped with the guys in making sounds and rapping, mixing and dj’ing. They were also kind enough to donate some dj needles, something that cannot be bought in Cambodia.
They have visited since a number of times and always make sure they visit Tiny Toones. On one visit, Hydro teamed up with Akil (Jurassic 5) and Eddie (resident DJ at Pontoon in Phnom Penh).
